About

We provide guidance to Harvard Library colleagues on collections projects with external partner institutions like Google Books, the Digital Public Library of America, Digital Commonwealth, HathiTrust, and the Internet Archive. We can help you to strategize contributing Harvard Library collections to collaborative projects through mass digitization, sharing metadata, or sharing collections.

Google Books

Our team is Harvard Library’s liaison to the Google Books Library Project. We participate in the partner library community of practice. Other colleagues in Library Technology Services and Access Services play a major role in preparing shipments of Harvard Library collections and keeping our data up-to-date. Do you have questions about Harvard Library’s participation, and you’re not sure where to start? We can help to connect you with the right person.

Digital Public Library of America (DPLA)

Each quarter we contribute the descriptive metadata from CURIOSity digital collections to DPLA, helping to make our collections findable alongside much of America’s digital cultural heritage. We liaise with DPLA staff and the DPLA hubs community of practice.

Digital Commonwealth

Upon request from a collection curator, we contribute the descriptive metadata from select CURIOSity digital collections to Digital Commonwealth, making a collection findable alongside other Massachusetts digital cultural heritage. We liaise with Boston Public Library (BPL) staff regarding metadata aggregation as well as the state-wide digitization program. We can help to connect you with contacts at BPL with questions about participating in state-wide digitization program, which includes the option to digitize materials using the Internet Archive’s Scribe machines.
